Great Places

These are the places I would like to share with you.

Book Passage – Corte Madera, CA

This bookstore is so awesome I'm humbled to even write about it. Book Passage has it all; author events, food and wine events, writing and language classes as well as professional conferences. There's always something going on at Book Passage. But that alone is not what makes this bookstore so great. It's the people hands down. Everyone at Book Passage makes you feel as if you belong in their store, like a warm welcome home where you can grab something to eat at the cafe and spend the day in a comfortable chair reading your favorite author! Every employee reads and are experts at suggesting books to you if you feel a bit overwhelmed by their inventory. It's a bookstore I love to explore.

Beaverdale Books – Des Moines, Iowa

This is a “cozy little neighborhood bookstore” in Beaverdale, a community in Des Moines. Yes, it is a small store, but it offers author events, wine and cheese events, book club and a writer's club. There's something about those wood floors and shelves full of books that keeps me coming back.

Prairie City Library – Prairie City, Iowa

I just love this little library. It is neat, clean and brightly lit – mostly with natural light. The aisles are wide and the shelves fully stocked. This little library has one of the best mystery sections I've seen in a library. The people are friendly and it is evident that Prairie City is a reading little town – the place is never empty and of course, everyone here is on a first name basis.

Powell's Books – Portland, Oregon

I've been in this place only once but WOW – I want to go back. The store covers several floors in multiple buildings so be prepared to spend a day in this place. I love their collections of old books. Someday when I have the space, I'm going back for a full set of Hardy Boys, Trixie Beldon and Young Junior Classics...original binding of my childhood. Fabulous place.

Twin Falls Animal Shelter - Twin Falls, Idaho

Click here to read a great story about caring people and a wonderful place for homeless animals.

Las Vegas/Clark County Library District

Living in Las Vegas has been very interesting. As a "resident" you become part of the community instead of just tourist attractions. The library system does a great job at providing community cohesion. They provide so much for the residents to enjoy whatever their interests are. Books, movies, music, art, classes and special events. We have greatly enjoyed this first class library system. It is a shining example of how a library can enrich the local community.
